artist's profile Joyotee, an Indian by birth, is now a Singaporean
persevering to bring her art to her adopted homeland. She has a Masters of
Arts from the University of Mumbai and a Arts Certificate from Lasalle SIA
College of Arts. Joyotee uses colour as a mode of expression synthesized
with her unique style, to express her emotions. Joyotee’s interest in colours was evident in her
childhood, when she painted all her drawings even before they were
complete. She spent her growing years watching her late father, Ajit Kumar
Banerjee, sketch and paint. His creations as an Art Director in the Bombay
film industry was what inspired Joyotee to look upon construction on
colours as a mode of expression. The loss of her father in her teens,
brought out the writer and poet in her but a more vivid expression of her
questioning mind seeking answers to all her experiences and emotions was
possible when she met her life partner and moved from Mumbai to settle
with her husband, Indrajit Ray Chaudhury, in Singapore. Her association
with a new, yet somewhat similar world to her Indian upbringing saw the
blossoming of her talent as an artist. ”Shakti” is an example of her
breaking out of her chrysalis into an experimental world of expression. “Impressions” her last show in 2005, saw a burst of
energy in a series of work that showcased her eagerness to express and her
desire to be recognised. Paintings like “Sati” now displayed at Chat
Masala (upper East Coast Road) depict the exploitation as well as the
power of womanhood, especially rampant, in Indian society. “Blossom”
brings about the universal fact of motherhood and the blossoming of
happiness associated with it. Though femininity has been an intrinsic part in many of
her themes, this up-coming show is more about the balance of power. “Shakti”
denotes the complete balance of power and is better understood as the Yin
and Yang, in complete harmony. This harmony is witnessed in the
individual, a couple in love or even a child in a perfect moment of truth
as charity, happiness or any fleeting moment of joy is experienced.
Joyotee’s exposé of different themes are evident in her website www.artworks-creations.com
which will give you an insight into the range of styles she has dabbled
in. After experiencing the “Art of Living” she has found
some answers to some of the universal questions. “Shakti” sees the
depiction of these experiences through paintings like “Satsang”, “Seva”,
and “Sadhana”. The theme of Shakti is hence, more focused on the
universal level rather than a personal journey. art art art indian indian indian
